Kindness and Generosity in North Platte

During WW2 North Platte, the Union Pacific rail junction, put itself on the map with the North Platte Canteen. The women of the town, and subsequently surrounding areas, undertook to meet every troop train passing through North Platte and served coffee and homecooked food to the soldiers on their way to the war in the Pacific. The women said that though they didn't have any industry to contribute to the war effort, they provided "morale" to the troops instead.
That tradition of helping strangers continues in North Platte today. While travelling across the SandHills, Dave broke the corner off one of his molars. He called around and Maple Park Dental Associates agreed to see him right away. Dr. David Swanson, DDS, quickly installed a temporary filling and wished him well on his travels. When Dave went to pay, they said "no charge, enjoy your trip".  This act of kindness greatly contributed to Bev and Dave's morale as they braved the high winds of the Plains.  Thanks so much Dr. Swanson !!!
