We set off from Craig along hwy 40's rolling curves through the high country of northwestern Colorado. After 1 1/2 hours we arrived at the cutoff for Dinosaur National Monument. This is a scenic road about 50 km that climbs 2000 feet with gentle sweeping curves - no hairy switchbacks. There are scenic lookouts along the way. On the picture of the curving road, you can see Bev in the lower right.
Unfortunately the rain arrived and Bev's gas tank was low and so we head to turn around before getting to the final lookout. We battled some nasty gusts (what else is new?) which tend to accompany storm cells but we got back down to hwy 40 and headed off to Dinosaur town. This is our second time through Dinosaur (pop 26) we went through in 2010 (see 2010 blog entries). We gassed up and headed off to Vernal, Utah. yikes... as in 2010, it poured on the way!!
