Chimney Rock and battling Nebraska winds
We set off from North Platte and took I80 for a short distance to Ogallala, then headed northwest to Scottsbluff. This road along the North Platte river was part of the Oregon and the Mormon trails west. Around midday the winds really picked up, there were signs warning of high winds. Bev noticed that with the sign, the wind sock was in tatters. We, like the early pioneers, eventually arrived at Chimney Rock (notice the snow!!!). This unique rock formation was both a land mark and a milestone marking the end of the plains and the start of the mountains. We continued on to Torrington and after four days finally finished crossing Nebraska and motored on into Wyoming. We then headed south to Cheyenne on Hwy 85 which had not fuel stops for over a hundred miles. Bev arrived running on fumes and with high stress. On the plus side we discovered her bike can actually do 300 km before reading empty.
