Yellowstone National Park

There are a few hundred wild bison (buffalo) in the park and we were lucky to see some playing, though Bev worried that they were headed to the road. Perched on a caldera makes for incredulous views with magmatic heat powering eruptions, geysers, hot springs, fumaroles and mudpots all over the park. Vegetation ranges from near-desert to subalpine meadows and forests. Lodgepole pines cover over half of the park. Can you believe this sign........ darn it, and we really needed a hot bath!

Yes, it is truly stunning. I would suggest that people allow for 3 full days at Yellowstone in order to see the whole thing. You have to book in advance whether camping or for a hotel as it is obviously very popular. The hotels are in West Yellowstone town, just at the west border of the Park and you can get reasonable ones too. We took a bus tour one day..then you don't have to cope with the traffic.
